The woman on the left is dancing with a man behind her and a man to her right. They are both contending for her as a prize, though she favours the fox-headed man to her right. There is a possibility that all this is merely in her imagination, as the looming green and blue figures seem to have little substance, and the more substantial orange male dancer slips from being human to being animal.
The most real-seeming figure is the pink foreground female, but her being real partly depends on her relating to her more shadowy dance partners, based on a sexual longing for figures whose desirability is increased by their rootedness in her imagination rather than in reality.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
