My topsy-turvy and unstable perception is exemplified in this painting of gossip, intrigue and rumour-mongering. The foreground figure looks uncertain about something, perhaps sensing that there is intrigue in the air, yet is, like I often feel, uncertain what this means. Or maybe it is a puzzle of an entirely different nature that prompts the chin stroking. The figures in the background seem up to no good, whispering and gleefully finger-pointing.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
