The mother hen is suspending the passive, male child from a harness, while an adult male figure is vigorously pushing her away. The father hen, much smaller, looks on as if unconnected to this family drama. An elderly male looks down at the scene, unable to affect the outcome. If one considers the three male figures as different ages of the same person, then the picture shows the initial effect of the mother, then the attempt by the adult male to pull away from the mother, and then the acceptance by the elderly male of the impossibility of resisting the effect of childhood conditioning.

Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
