Figures with Statue (2023)
Acrylic on Canvas
39" x 39" / 100cm x 100cm
There is a lot of turning away in order to think in this picture, as if to say, nothing can come from dialogue. The Greek statue seems to be thinking his own thoughts, unconcerned with the fragmented figures behind him. Whatever is important is important because it is subjective, secret, withheld. Nobody is talking.
But despite this, people are frantically trying to communicate using gestures (there are many hands and pointed fingers) and facial expressions. The lack of effective social intercourse leaves the figures seeming to be unrelated to one another, not meeting each other's eyes, indicating social incoherence. This failure even affects human identities, leaving them fragmented and incomplete.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
Screen colours can vary among computers, so please know that there may be a slight variation in real life. Every effort has been made to represent the artwork most accurately to the original painting.
