There is uncertain sexual intimacy here, because although the couple are naked and together, he turns away from her. Although she holds him, she also looks away. Neither seem happy. It may be we are witnessing a moment of disagreement between them. The manikin behind them signals to us with his rolling eyes, that he finds the situation amusing. So this is a bad moment in the sexual relationship, that is being held up to public ridicule. The failure is emphasised by the slanting diagonal composition that gives the impression that the figures are on a downward slide.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
