'Self-Portrait, Ganesha, Geisha and Three Figures' (2024) 39" x39"
Acrylic on Canvas
100cm x 100cm
Acrylic on canvas. Unframed.
Ganesha, running Dorian migrants, and the geisha clash together in a cultural mix that is watched by the artist. Ganesha was turned into a low figure by having his head replaced by that of an elephant. The Dorian migrants claimed that despite their status as lowly incomers, they originated in prestigious Mycenae. The geisha cancels the prostitute taint by association with the rich. In this context, the self-portrayed artist sees his status as equally problematic and open to dispute.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
Screen colours can vary among computers, so please know that there may be a slight variation in real life. Every effort has been made to represent the artwork most accurately to the original painting.
