Two Figures and Bull Man (2023)
Acrylic on Canvas
39" x 39" / 100cm x 100cm
The spatial composition resembles a Mary, Joseph and Child, with the bull man as child lying across the body of the woman, watched by the large-eyed face that is close by. The woman's skin colour was inspired by a nude by Chaim Soutine. The two parental figures share an intimate huddle, with the sexually alluring female staring challengingly at her abject purple spouse. The intimacy might be thought of as surprising given how different the two figures are, yet the woman's intense stare, and the imploring face of her vulnerable husband, establish a credible bond. In contrast, the child figure seems unconcerned in his self-entitlement and acceptance of parental protection.
Please be advised, a tray frame would add about an inch to the size of the canvas.
